EXTRAPOLATIONS 2026 – THE HISTORY OF COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY IN SLOVAKIA

21. 10. 2026

After a seven-year hiatus, the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice—in collaboration with the Institute of Informatics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, the Institute of Informatics at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, and the Supercomputing Centre at the Technical University of Košice—has organized an exhibition titled *Extrapolations 2026: The History of Computing in Slovakia*. Through unique artifacts from the Slovak Technical Museum’s collections, the exhibition showcases the evolution of information technology from its very beginnings, inviting visitors into the fascinating world of computing in Slovakia.

"This year’s exhibition is, for the first time, produced entirely by the Slovak Technical Museum, featuring a selection of artifacts drawn exclusively from the museum’s own collections. The goal of the exhibition is to show the younger generation that computing technology was, in fact, manufactured within the territory of present-day Slovakia." "Scientific institutions will present their programs, tasks, and basic information about the latest supercomputer, Perún," explained Ing. Peter Drozd, the exhibition’s creator and curator of the Electrical Engineering Department at the Slovak Technical Museum (STM).

Authentic collection items—never before shown to the public—allow visitors to trace the evolution of computing technology: from early vacuum-tube-based computing devices and information-processing methods to the technologies of the late 20th century that paved the way for today’s digital world.
